Not wanting to be restrained by the existing layout of the condo, the owner desired an open layout with a transitional feel that is both sophisticated and functional. Walls and drops were removed to open up the kitchen and living areas. A tone-on-tone monochromatic color palette was employed to unify the space; however pops of color in the fabrics, accessories and artwork provide warmth and appeal. For ease of maintenance and durability, engineered wood flooring was laid for the whole of the unit.
The remodel provided two situations that required inspired ideas to overcome. First, the solid marble island countertop in the kitchen was hoisted over one of the balconies when no other method safely deliver it. Second, with already low ceilings, 2” shallow recessed LED lighting fixtures were employed throughout to keep ceilings at maximum height and provide ample lighting.
